CompassionCare Hospice Team – Walk To End Alzheimer’s Event News
By participating in the walk, the CompassionCare Hospice team helped to raise donation dollars that went to the research of Alzheimer’s treatment, prevention, and ultimately one day, a cure. It also helped increase the level of Alzheimer’s awareness in our Las Vegas community. Alzheimer’s disease is a type of dementia. It is a disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions. There is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease, but treatment may help. Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States and more than 5 million Americans are living with it. In the United States alone someone develops Alzheimer’s every 66 seconds. All the funds raised from the event goes to the Alzheimer’s Association to further the care, support, and research for Alzheimer’s disease.

Lois is a Golden Retriever who was born on June 08, 2014. She is a trained LCC K-9 Comfort Dog with the First Good Shepherd School, Lois interacts with people at churches, schools, nursing homes, hospitals and our hospice patients. Lois is a dog that brings companionship and love that creates a powerful emotional bond between animal and human. The bonds that humans share with pets result in very positive effects: reduced anxiety and stress, increased feelings of relaxation, and an overall improved outlook on life. Hospice pet therapy, using the longstanding bond between humans and animals, brings joy, humor, unconditional love, and soothing companionship to those on the end-of-life journey.

We had an excellent day out at Derfelt Senior Center today. We assisted Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard and Three Square with their Food Drive. It was also the 2nd Anniversary of Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard. If you don’t know who this organization is and would like to find out more please swing by their Facebook Page. Please make sure to like it while you’re there. MHC assists local Nevadans in need. Today they had an open to the public food pantry in observance of their anniversary. This organization helped so many people in need of little help. CompassionCare Hospice is a proud to supporter of Rebecca and her ongoing quest to make life a little easier for so many local families.
It was truly inspiring and motivating to see what the heart and mind of a 12-year old girl can do. Rebecca Richard (photo to the left) actually started Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard in a quest to assist people in need of food and everyday items. CompassionCare Hospice was able to get an exclusive interview with the Three Square Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Dan Williams and 12-year old Rebecca Richard. We’ll be posting the interview a little later.
